Writers’ block can be a writer’s bane of existence. While’s annoying want to write and not have the Muse whispering in your ear, it can be even more stressful when you’ve got a deadline to meet and your editor is not going to take “Sorry, it just wouldn’t come” as an answer. No words=no money.

The solution for writers’ block that I’ve found is to get away. Go walk around the block. Write a poem. Play a video game. Eat a meal. Whatever. Just walk away for a while. Writers’ block is like a stomach ache; it’ll pass eventually, one way or another.

In my experience, you can usually find inspiration to write anything except what you’re trying to. So go write something else. If you run a website about getting to paid to write, go write a post.

The honest truth is that I get a bit of a buzz answering the question “So what do you do?” with:

“I’m a writer.”

It’s sexy. It’s daring and exciting. It’s what everybody who ever read Bird by Bird wants to do. The follow-up to that answer is less appealing: its a ridiculous amount of work to succeed at being a paid writer. You have to pound the cyberpavement and hustle most of your work by yourself. I’ve been searching for a long time and I have yet to find a class called “Internet Marketing 101″. That is part of the reason I created this website. I want to save other people some of the legwork that I had to do. Most of what I know about SEO and online content I learned on the job. I asked lots of questions on how to write better, faster, more appealing to guests, more appealing to bosses. I owe a big debt of gratitude to industry professionals, coworkers and other writers, such as Andrew Evans, the Digital Nomad (since he’s my brother, I don’t feel bad about the plug).

So, the question is: how do I write for a living and earn a living doing so? That’s what this website is all about.
